Naked2 Basics Review & Swatches

They got me again - Urban Decay and their Naked line always has a way of creeping into my Sephora shopping cart. Here it is, the sequel to the Naked Basics, a palette I've pretty well permanently kept in my everyday makeup bag for a year and a half now. I think it's a combination of the size (so lovely and compact), the all matte colors (which I've been completely obsessed with lately), and the whole taupe/brown shade family housed in this lovely little palette that made me fall for it just as hard as I fell for the first. 

Although the shades are from different families - the original being on the warmer end of things, and the second being cooler - the palette in general is set up in the same way. You get five matte shades, and one demi-matte shade (Skimp) which is perfect for highlighting - similar to the original which includes Venus as a highlighting shade. 

I really enjoy how they both include a deeper, darker matte shade as well - perfect for using as a liner, or for deepening up the outer corner of the eye when doing your smokey eye of choice.

I think the main reason I love these palettes both so much is the versatility you are able to have with them - using them solo you can get some lovely matte looks, or you can utilize the matte shades along with shimmers from another palette you love to create a really amazing combination. It's certainly no secret that none of the Naked Palettes have all that many matte shades, which are always super useful for blending and adding extra definition to any eye look. With these in combination with any or all of the Naked Palettes 1-3 you have no end to the amount of looks and shimmer/matte combinations. 

Valentines Lips | Three Ways

Whether you're going on a date with that special someone, choosing to stay and have a good pamper session, or doing a night out with friends, Valentines is a day for love. It's always nice to look nice, regardless of what you're doing on the 14th, so I've rounded up three combos - lip-spiration as it were -  that work perfectly with a variety of different makeup looks for whatever kind of V-day you're choosing to have.

Nude

For the nude lip I chose my favorite lip liner in Natural by Rimmel, and filled in my entire lips. Then I applied Revlon Soft Nude and topped it off with the Maybelline Color Elixir gloss in Nude Illusion.

Pink

I had a bit of a harder time deciding on a pink lip, but narrowed it down the Elf lip liner in ... , which I lined and filled in my lips with. Next I took one of my all time favorite pink lipsticks - Mac Creme Cup. I chose not to go with a gloss and keep it more on the creamy/natural looking end of things and I'm happy with the decision.

Red

Finally, and most boldly of all - I had to do a red of course (Valentines and red go hand in hand) - so I grabbed my only go to red of the past couple months. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo is simply stunning.

Beating Winter Blues With Champagne Shades

I love a good glow in my makeup all year round, but I seem to be craving that lit from within look even more during this gloomy time of year. We're right into the thick of the winter right now, and it's not our skins best friend. The dry weather and short days tend to make skin dull and lack luster - my solution is to pull out the champagne tones.

Rimmel bullet proof beige 

My first and most obvious choice - note the name - is the Covergirl Eye Enhancers eyeshadow in Champagne. So soft and buttery, it makes for the most amazing inner corner highlight that will truly make your eyes pop. Naked Lunch from MAC is also one of my favorite powder eyeshadows for bringing extra brightness to my eyes - the bonus is it isn't a heavy glitter shade so it never looks over the top. As for cheeks my go to powder product is the Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki. It's labeled as a bronzer but for that purpose I think it would be impossible to pull off. It is however one of the best drugstore highlighting products I've ever found. 

If you're more of a cream product type of person, especially in terms of face highlighters, then Benefit Watts Up is the perfect product. In a stick form it makes for super easy application and adds the most wonderfully natural glow to the skin without looking like you actually applied a highlighting product. Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Powder - what a mouth full - is yes, technically, a "powder", however I kind of find it to be an in between kind of product. The applicator dispenses small amounts of this creamy powder that adds such a beautiful glow to the cheeks or eyes. Just a tip, I dispense it onto the back of my hand and then use a brush to apply it to where I want it - applying it straight from the container can get a little tedious. 

My final two picks are both eyeshadow sticks, and seriously, who doesn't love a good eyeshadow stick - so easy to use and convenient. The NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in cottage cheese - the name leaves little to be desired - is a stunner. It's shimmery white with undertones of gold. Finally the Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeshadow stick in bulletproof beige, which I must add is waterproof, adds a gorgeous light golden glow to the lids. I love wearing this both alone and as a base to make other shadows really pop. 

Five Things | Perfect Mac Starter Eyeshadows

In terms of eyeshadows you've really got to love some MAC, am I right? The thing with this is that their large selection - the large range of colors and finishes, can be amazing for a seasoned MUA, but for a beginner approaching a counter can be more than a little intimidating. Hopefully some of the apprehension can be taken care of with this run down of my five favorites which are perfect for beginners. The only requirement is that you have to love neutrals - neutrals are my jam if you didn't already realize - and have a decent makeup brush for eyeshadow application. 

My first and probably most well known of the bunch is Naked Lunch. This beauty is probably one of my first true loves from MAC - I've hit pan! It's just so easy to wear. It can be a light wash of color, or it can be the beginning of a more glamorous and dramatic eye. If I'm not just wearing this on its own (which I do quite a lot), I love pairing it with Espresso. This is a warm, matte cocoa shade that makes for the perfect crease color - it's soft enough to not look over the top. It also makes for a great brow shade depending on your natural tones. It blends like a dream which is why I find myself reaching for it with many of my brown smokey looks - you wont get any chalkiness here!

The next two shades I picked also have a lovely relationship with Naked Lunch - they both look amazing when used as a crease color. Cork is a matte golden brown shade, and much like Espresso, one of my go to crease shades for any type of neutral smokey eye. Also like Espresso, it is so smooth, blendable and not chalky or powdery at all. If you want something that is still neutral but more on the taupe end of things then Quarry is an amazing option. Out of my selection of five this is the third and final matte I chose. This is a soft plum brown that I enjoy wearing both in the crease with something like NL, or on its own swept over the lid as a nice simple wash of color - trust me it's a stunner!

Finally, where on earth would a neutral lover be without a good bronze option? Mulch is a brown with undertones of red and bronze pearl. It has a velvet finish which basically just means all the shine glamour without the risk of glitter fallout. This is another shade that can easily be thrown all over the lid and blended out into the crease - it looks like you did way more work than you actually did. It also looks stunning when built up with other colors to create a great smokey eye look. Any way you want to rock this is the right way in my opinion.

Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette | Review and Swatches

Over the years I'd heard so many different people talk about this little palette, and for the most part it was all positive reviews - good quality eyeshadows for an amazing price. I finally decided it was my turn to test it out, and for five dollars who can say no?

I'm just going to start this off by saying, if you don't already have this you need to get your hands on it. For about 63 cents per shadow (and good sized ones at that), you can seriously not go wrong. I was of course drawn to this one specifically because of the neutral lover in me, but they also have a palette with blue tones, purples and one with a brighter mixture of shades as well.

These shadows are seriously buttery and so easy to blend - probably one of the better formulas of eyeshadows you can find at the drugstore.

The palette is laid out perfect for beginners as well - each shadow is pressed with a suggestion on where to use each specific shade to create either a simple or dramatic look. I prefer the shades on the left side, but the brow bone shade on right is seriously gorgeous, and the definer color on the right is the most amazing duo chrome finish (the swatches do not do it justice) - in some lights its a dark brown, in others it's blue.

November Favorites 2014

As another month comes to and end it's that time where I round up some of the things I've used and enjoyed the most this month... here's what I came up with! 

NYX Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo

Guys, seriously, I've been obsessed with this little beauty this month. It is so soft and creamy (as the name would suggest) and I don't find it drying like other matte lip products I've tried. It's long wearing and smells amazing too! Going to be getting more shades in the very near future because I think I'm in love.

Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation

I plan on doing a full review/how I apply this product really soon but just know it is seriously awesome stuff. I may actually have to dub this my favorite drugstore foundation of all time (wow! now that says something!). 

Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner Definer in Natural 

This is an old favorite that really never isn't in my makeup bag, I've gone through at least 4 of these guys in my time and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. It's the 'my lips but better' lip liner shade, and I adore it so much I wear it on its own a lot of the time as well. This month I've been really loving it combined with the next product I'm going to mention. 

Maybelline Color Elixir in Nude Illusion 

This stunner has been going over top of the Rimmel liner and making for my perfect everyday lip combo. These glosses are also an addiction of mine - my goal is to get every single color... seriously. They feel amazing and smell even better! 

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze

Another oldie but goodie. It's such an effortless product and I think that's why I always end up throwing it back into my makeup bag time and time again.

EVAmour Perfume by Eva Longoria 

I must say I did not buy this for myself, my mother in law picked it up on a whim while in duty free while on a trip to North Carolina. I'm usually slightly nervous to receive fragrances as a gift because I'm so particular about what I truly like to wear. She really did amazing picking this up though, it is just me plus fall - I am terrible at describing scents but I highly recommend giving this a sniff next time you're able to because it's simply lovely.

Maybelline Pumped Up Mascara

As you can probably tell, if Maybelline comes out with a new mascara Hannah buys it, and fast. This has been in my makeup bag all month long and I've really been enjoying how plump and full and, of course, 'pumped up' it makes my lashes look. 

Maybelline Gel Liner in Brown

I've been loving this for both lining my eyes and for my water line and tight line. It lasts all day, the formula is smooth and creamy and I've been really digging brown liner because it's not as harsh looking as black can be, which is great for every day wear. 

Sally Hansen Polish in Ruby Do

Really no explanation needed for this aside from that its a lovely creamy burgundy wine color, and is the exact shade that I'm obsessed with at this time of year. I really love the formula of this polish, it's super creamy and opaque in one coat. I also enjoy the brush as it's bigger than ones like Essie/OPI. 

Notebooks

Finally, in the picture above you see I added in a notebook. This has just been the one I've been using over the past few weeks, but in general any form of notebook is always a favorite of mine. I use them for my daily life to keep track of jobs around the house, for my blog, for work, and to keep track of my kids and where they need to be - I would be totally lost without a notebook on the go at all times. 

Naked 2 Palette Review and Swatches

Its been about a year and a half since I bit the bullet and got even more Naked in my life (Urban Decay Naked that is), and somehow I've yet to do my own personal post on my thoughts and swatches of the palette. I really have no clue how its taken me this long, but finally I am here with a post which I hope you will enjoy!

Compared to the Naked 1 there are many differences between the two, first and foremost being the exterior of the palette. The first Naked palette was velvety in texture with printed lettering on the front (as you can see in the picture below mine is extremely dirty and the letters have faded a ton since I bought it). Naked 2 has a hard exterior and snaps shut vs the N1 which had a magnetic closure.

Just like with the first, there are 12 eyeshadows, but unlike the first they are much more taupe themed and on the cooler end of the spectrum. 

Foxy, Half Baked, Bootycall, Chopper

Chopper is probably my least favorite shade out of the entire palette as it has a lot of chunky glitter and I tend to always have a problem with fallout when I wear this shade.

Tease, Snakebite, Suspect, Pistol

Tease and Suspect are absolutely my top two favorites from the entire palette. Tease reminds me a lot of one of my favorite Mac shades 'Quarry' which I love. Suspect is just the perfect shimmery taupe beige and I adore wearing it all over the lid and on the lower lash line for a quick and simple eye look.

Verve, YDK, Busted, Blackout

Two of my other absolute favorites from the palette are YDK and Busted - combined together for an eye look you are totally ready for a night out. Also Verve is probably one of the best silver shades I've ever come across - it can be used subtly or built up for a huge impact. Blackout is also one of the best matte blacks I've ever had, and of course you can never have too many good blacks in your collection because they are just so versatile. 

Now if you were to ask which of the two comes out on top for me.. well the answer is still going to be the original Naked, but this is a really close second, especially for the fall and winter months.

Maybelline 'The Nudes' Palette - Review & Swatches

As promised in my October favorites post, here is my thoughts and opinions on The Nudes palette from Maybelline, and swatches of the shadows. 

As I mentioned previously in my favorites, I had been unsure whether or not there was a point in getting this palette. Yes its nudes, yes I love nudes, but I thought it may just be another mediocre quality nude themed palette taking up space in my collection, and I could just put the money towards something a little more expensive that is certain to be good quality. My mind was swayed after seeing several positive reviews from some of my favorite Youtubers and beauty bloggers alike however. 

Since picking this up around the end of September I've been using it almost daily and have been more than happy with my decision. It varies in price depending on where you go, but its between $10.99 - $14.99 CAD. You get 12 shadows - 5 matte, 7 shimmery/frosted. The palette also comes with a double ended applicator and several small charts on the back with suggestions on how to combine the shadows to achieve different eye looks. 

I find this palette to be quite versatile, with many different options and ways to wear it, from subtle to deep smokey eyes. Although a couple of the shades weren't quite as pigmented as I had hoped (specifically the black shade) I really can't say any major criticisms about the product as a whole - you're certainly getting your moneys worth!

Lippies I'm Loving Lately

Lately I've been finding myself reaching for a bigger variety of lip products on a more regular basis - this is kind of odd for me because although I love to shop for lipsticks/glosses and all other things lip related I rarely change my look during the week. I find myself picking out one product to stick in my every day makeup bag which I store in my bathroom, and then that's pretty well what I rock the entire week, unless I'm feeling daring or there's a date night out involved.

You can see pretty clearly I've been loving my various shades of pink for the most part. As usual many of my favorites of the moment are also Revlon - I have a huge soft spot for all Revlon products, but they just really know what they're doing when it comes to lip products specifically.

What have been some of your favorite lip products lately? 

Revlon Lip Butter Love

Revlon has always been one of my top drugstore brands, especially when it comes to anything lip product related. One of the best things they've ever done is created their line of 'Lip Butters', which come in a large variety of shades and have a beautiful creamy consistency. These have been out for quite some time now, however I've never given them any attention on here, or shown them the love and praise they truly deserve.

I have five shades in my collection currently, all of which are all on the somewhat more natural, easy to wear end of the spectrum.

They are not as pigmented as a lipstick, but are buildable and slightly more long wearing than a lipgloss. That being said, they aren't a stain, so once you eat or drink you will have to do a touch up. Out of the five I have, sweet tart has the best lasting power, and does very slightly stain the lips as well. They're especially great for those who fear bold lipsticks, but want to give more vivid shades a try.

I would highly recommend these to people who have dryer lips, and find lipsticks do too much damage. They're not super moisturizing like a lip balm, but they do a pretty good job of keeping your lips hydrated while giving a lovely pop of color.

This line is amazing, and it has so many shades I think everyone could find at least one that suits their fancy. They have such an amazing variety of shades that would also compliment any and every skin tone. 

UD Naked Basics Palette Review & Swatches

If you're new to my blog, or just somehow missed this fact about me, there is nothing I like (love) more than a good neutral palette. Maybe the only thing better than a neutral palette is a neutral palette that is also compact and easy to travel with.

I purchased the UD Naked Basics finally after many months of wondering the all mighty MUA question, 'do I really need more neutral shadows?'. After becoming the owner of both Naked 1 and 2 palettes I finally decided to cave one day while browsing around Sephora as we all love to do. Fast forward six months later I am so satisfied with the decision. I can honestly say I have used this in some way shape or form at least five days a week since purchasing it.

The palette is extremely compact and convenient - as you can see it's slightly smaller than my iPhone 4s, which makes it very easy to pop in any bag or makeup pouch.

The palette is composed of six shades, five are matte and one is shimmery (venus). There is only one color that doubles up with either Naked 1 or 2, and that is foxy which is in the Naked 2. I really love that they came out with a "naked 2" shade for this palette, as I thought that would be something they would include in the actual N2 palette.

As with any Urban Decay palette, the shadows are so soft and buttery. They're also so highly pigmented and blend like a dream. The shades are great for mixing with colors from other palettes, or to use alone for a lovely matte eye look that can be softer, or easily deepened up with the darker shades for more depth.

My MAC Palette Tour

I've long been a lover and collector of all things Mac, so when I started up my eyeshadow palette I felt so pleased to begin building it into something purely my own. Three years later I've come and gone from adding to it, but it now has 14/15 positions filled and I think it looks absolutely glorious and perfectly my style. 

So without further delay...

(in order from left to right, top to bottom row)

Mylar - A satin finished creamy white with the slightest shimmer. I 

Grain - Another satin finish, this is a lovely golden beige with a slight shimmer, and again does not look like much when swatched but it adds a lovely something special when used all over the lid on a lazy makeup day, and is also extremely useful when bringing down color from the brow/crease if you got too carried away with your blending. 

Naked Lunch - Light pink champagne staple of eyeshadow bliss! I don't think I would be complete without this (as you can see I've hit pan). It is a frost finish, and you need this in your world no matter what your skin tone!

All That Glitters - Pinky beige with gold pearl and is a veluxe pearl finish. Again, another staple shadow that I time and time again come back to, and if this shade and a sun tan in the summer months is wrong... I don't want to be right! 

Honey Lust - A bronzy peach with a lustre finish for a serious pop of bronzed goddess. This hasn't been in my collection long but I think I'll be doing amazing things with this once the weather gets warmer.

Soft Brown - A golden peachy brown with a matte finish that is one of my absolute favorite transition colors for my crease.

Cork - This is a little cooler and more muted of a golden brown when compared to Soft Brown, but also an amazing crease color. I also love applying this over the lid and smudging it under my lower lash line for a simple and quick soft smokey eye effect.

Espresso - A matte chocolate brown, which actually looks darker in the pan than it does once its applied to the skin. I love this for blending out deeper brown eye looks. 

Mulch - A brown bronze with slight red undertones. It has a velvet finish which makes it a dream to apply and blend, and is one of my personal favorites when combined with All That Glitters.

Quarry - This is a matte, soft taupe/plum shade. I've had this one for quite a while but I seem to only be drawn to it during the fall months - big love for the sultry eye look this can create!

Copperplate - Before I say anything, just LOOK at that grey! This is a matte mid-tone grey, and unlike any grey I've ever owned before, it's just sooo lovely. It also has the best texture of any of my shadows in the palette, so velvety and silky. 

Sketch - A burgundy/plum with slight hints of red shimmer. It has a velvet finish and is a must have for fall and winter for me. Using Fix+ and a liner brush I line my upper lash line for a different look, a great alternative to black or brown.

Beauty Marked - Velvet finished black/purple with sparkle. This is probably my least favorite of all my shadows as it does not come off half as impressive on the skin as it looks in the pan. Using a wet brush helps, but it just isn't quite as you'd expect. 

Black Tied - A black with silver sparkle throughout and has a velvet finish. I enjoy this as its not quite as black as something like Carbon, and when used correctly you can achieve a lovely sparkle while deepening up any look, or using it as a liner.

Rimmel London Kate Moss Lipsticks - Review & Swatches

First off I want to apologize for my extreme slacking in regards to blog posts over the past month. I am really trying to get better at making the time each week to commit to blogging, but with twins it is extremely hard!

Now that I have apologies out of the way, I can tell you about my new lippy loves. Rimmel came out with these Kate Moss lipsticks a while back, and over the past couple months I have caved and picked up three different shades to test out. 

I have sampled other Rimmel lipsticks before, the ones in the shiny purple packaging though (not sure what they are designated as?), and have enjoyed all that I've tried. These have followed suite for me, I've been really enjoying them! 

I'll start off by saying I enjoy the packaging. For being a drugstore product I appreciate that it isn't like the other Rimmel lipsticks I own, bright metallic packaging, which can come off as slightly tacky. These are a matte black and simply have the signature Rimmel crown on the top of the cap and have Kate and a heart on the side of the cap. 

The one thing that bugs me however, there's no names! I always love when products have super cute names - I've always thought that would be a fun job to have actually, naming lipstick and nail polish colors! So when a company can't bother to name their products and simply resorts to numbers I can't help but be a little annoyed with their lack of effort. 

The collection is marketed as 'Lasting Finish' - so basically it is similar to pro long wear and/or superstay products from other companies. I don't feel the staying power is that miraculous or different from the usual lipstick, I would say from personal use they will last about 4 hours, but much less if you are eating or drinking. After about 4 hours I found they began to fade and slip slightly. They didn't look terrible by any means, but reapplying is a must to keep the bold pop all day long. 

There is a variety of shades available, from pinks and nudes to reds and deeper vampy purples as well. I picked mine up at Walmart for about $6 CAD - can't go wrong for the price thats for sure! My store had about 10 different shades, but I believe more are available, it just depends on what specific stores carry.

The two red shades I chose - 01 and 11 are gorgeous and I've been wearing them a fair bit this past month or so. 01 has more of a hint of orange in it, where has 11 is more of a blue undertone red. It all depends on your skin tone really to find the perfect red for you, but both of these I feel work well for me. I also picked up 14, which is a pinky-brown sort of nude - certainly deeper than any other nude I own, which makes it more suitable for winter. 

So there you have it! Over all I would certainly recommend these, especially for the slim price tag. I think there is a perfect color for everyone in this collection!

Loving Lately: Golden Eyes & My Top Eyeshadow Picks to Get the Look!

My makeup routine lately has been pretty simple and basic, after having twins you really can't expect much else after all! One thing I have been really enjoying however is a simple wash of a gold shadow over the lid, plus some black liner and a mascara. If I'm feeling extra daring, or have the time to spare, I will go in with darker brown shadows in the outer V to create a more 'complex' look, but for every day wear simple is best! 

Urban Decay e/s - Half Baked (Naked 1 palette) 

One of my all time favorite golds, and I'm certain others can agree, is Half Baked by UD. It is literally the perfect gold and applies so easily to the lid - you can do a light wash, or use a dense brush to pack on the color for a more intense look. If you don't want to put your money into the Naked Palette, you can always pick up this shadow in a single pot form. 

Loreal e/s Quad in Kerri's Bronzes

This is a fantastic palette for the price, I am a real lover of all Loreal palettes in fact. This one in particular has been meeting my needs nicely lately - it has the perfect four shades for a lovely fall eye look. Of course you can use these shadows separately or all together, both options are fantastic!

Out of all the shadows I am showing you, this one is by far the furthest from your standard 'gold' shadow. This is much more of a cross between a champagne and gold - although it appears to have peachy tones in the pot it does not come out that way when applied to the eye. These mineral shadows are fabulous actually, and for a mere $3 you really can't go wrong - much more affordable than Mac pigments that's for sure! 

Mac e/s in Honey Lust

This comes off as more of a peachy gold, at least on my skin tone, but because of that it makes it a great shadow for every day wear, being not as intense a golden look as Half Baked would be. I do find there is some fall out with this shadow, but it's nothing a light sweep of a fluffy brush over your cheeks wont fix!
